Tesla’s minimalist design is absolutely beautiful, but after a few weeks of use, one question arises: where do I store all my daily essentials? Between charging cables, disinfectant, sunglasses, toll tickets, and all the accumulated clutter, the interior can quickly turn into a mess.
After several months of driving my Tesla daily, I’ve tested many solutions to optimize every available square centimeter. And believe me, there are far more usable spaces than you’d think at first glance!
A well-organized interior isn’t just about aesthetics. It’s also about safety (preventing objects from rolling under the pedals), practicality (finding your toll badge in two seconds), and everyday comfort.
Today I’m sharing my Tesla interior storage tips that I personally apply and which have truly transformed my driving experience.

The center console: transforming this large bin into an organized space
The first challenge with the Model 3 and Model Y is this immense Tesla center console that looks like a large storage bin with no dividers. Practical for large items, but a real nightmare for small things that all end up at the bottom in a happy jumble.
My miracle solution? Compartmented organizers. I’ve tested several models, and honestly, they’re life-changing. These small accessories divide the console into several dedicated zones: one for charging cables, one for coins, another for cards and badges, and yet another for disinfectant or masks.
My main advice: don’t overload the console. You absolutely must maintain easy access to the USB ports and wireless charger. I made the mistake at first of piling too many things in, and it was a hassle to plug in my phone.
The tip I apply: I only keep items I truly use daily. The rest goes into the trunk or the hidden spaces I’m about to tell you about.
The accessories I personally use
I opted for a silicone organizer with multiple compartments. Silicone is great because it doesn’t slip, it doesn’t make noise, and it’s easy to clean. Budget: between 20 and 40 euros depending on the model.
Some prefer stacked drawer organizers. They’re more expensive (50-80 euros) but really practical if you have many small items to store. Installation literally takes two minutes: you place it in the console, and that’s it.
You can find these accessories on Amazon, but also on specialized Tesla websites or in stores like this one, which offers solutions adapted to the exact dimensions of your model.
Optimize often-forgotten storage compartments and hidden spaces
Beyond the center console, your Tesla is full of small hidden storage spaces that took me a while to discover and properly utilize.
The doors, for example. I installed small magnetic pouches that attach to the interior panels. Perfect for slipping in a road map, tissues, or documents. There are also hanging organizers that clip onto the original Tesla storage pockets.
The compartment under the armrest (mainly on Model S and X) is often overlooked. I store my secondary cables and some accessories there that I don’t use every day but want to keep within reach.
The space between the front seats is narrow, but you can slide in a folding umbrella or a slim water bottle. Not bad for freeing up the cup holders.
Speaking of cup holders! I use silicone adapters to stabilize small bottles and prevent them from tipping over. They cost a few euros and are super practical.
My late discovery: depending on the model, there’s a small usable space behind the central screen. I don’t put anything heavy there, but it’s perfect for slipping in a microfiber cloth to clean the screen.

The underfloor trunk: utilizing this precious space
The underfloor trunk is a true hidden treasure of Teslas. It’s one of the most generous yet often underutilized spaces. Even I took several weeks before truly organizing it effectively.
My method: I organize by category with storage bins adapted to the dimensions. One bin for all cables (home charging, adapters), another for the emergency kit (vest, triangle, first-aid kit), and a last one for groceries that might roll around everywhere.
My personal tip for Tesla trunk storage: I use different colored bags to quickly identify what I’m looking for. Blue for cables, red for emergencies, green for cleaning. It might seem silly, but it saves me a ton of time.
What I always keep: charging cables, safety vest, flashlight, USB breakdown cable, and a basic cleaning kit. What I occasionally add: sports bag, picnic equipment, foldable cooler for groceries.
Let’s not forget the frunk, that front trunk so unique to Teslas. I mainly use it to isolate items that might smell (sports shoes, grocery bag with cheese) or for things I want to keep naturally cool in winter.
Special road trip and long journeys
For trips with the whole family, my organization changes completely. I clear out the main trunk as much as possible for suitcases, and I concentrate everything else in the underfloor trunk and the frunk.
I’ve developed an entire system with compression bags for clothes and stackable organizers. If you often go on road trips, I recommend checking out my tips for optimizing space during Tesla road trips, where I detail my entire organization for long journeys.
My bonus tips for an always immaculate interior
Beyond the large spaces, I have a few small tips that really make a difference daily to optimize space and keep the interior spotless.
The golden rule I impose on myself: everything must have its place. As soon as I get out of the car, I systematically put every item back in its place. It takes 30 seconds and prevents clutter from accumulating.
The clever Tesla storage accessories I love: adhesive hooks on the back of the headrests for hanging light grocery bags, and an elastic net behind the passenger seat for magazines or children’s tablets.
To prevent cables from getting tangled, I use simple Velcro ties. Each cable is individually rolled up and tied. No more Gordian knot at the bottom of the console! By the way, I discovered this additional storage tip that I found and which perfectly complements my system.
My system for seasonal equipment: a dedicated storage bag in the underfloor trunk. In winter, I put a scraper, brush, and gloves in it. In summer, it contains sunscreen, spare glasses, and a cap. I just change the bag’s contents twice a year.
The secret is to maintain that minimalist Tesla aesthetic while being super practical. Fewer visible objects = more sense of space and serenity. But everything is there, within reach, just intelligently stored.
After months of refining my Tesla interior organization, I can tell you that the impact on my daily comfort is enormous. No more stress looking for my belongings, no more noise from rolling objects, and a real pleasure opening the door every morning.
Every Tesla and every owner is different. These tips work for me, but I strongly encourage you to test them and adapt them to your specific needs. The important thing is to find the system that works for you.
