Its Highlights
The first impression one gets when inside the Tesla Model Y is its strong similarity to its little sister, the Model 3. A 15-inch floating screen, wooden dashboard, and full-length glass roof. Tesla obviously drew inspiration from its small sedan’s world, and the result is perfectly convincing.
However, you will notice that the Tesla Model Y has some specific features:
- the seat height is higher than on the Model 3
- can accommodate 7 people, meaning 2 rows of seats in the back
- the recline of the second-row seats
- a significant cargo space
- a liftgate trunk that makes access and loading easier
This is Tesla’s first compact crossover vehicle.

The Interior Look of the Model Y
The Model 3 and Y share many similarities. This is especially noticeable in the front cabine intรฉrieure, where all elements are very similar.
Personally, I greatly appreciate this modern and sleek look of the Model, so I am delighted that it is being carried over to this new model.
Coming from a Model 3, the most striking point is the difference in seating height. Indeed, the seats rest on risers. You feel like you’re in an SUV. The difference is noticeable, even if it’s only a few centimeters, and also allows for easier entry and exit.
Is its interior spacious?
Yes, the interior is really spacious, especially in the back! This is also the notable difference between the Model 3 and the Tesla Model Y: the feeling of space and volume for legs and head when sitting in the back.
Thanks to the raised front seats, the legroom is incredible, and you can easily slide your feet underneath.
However, you don’t gain much space in seating width, and transporting three adults in the back remains tight due to lack of shoulder room. And that’s even if you’re not transporting 3 rugby players?
A major advantage is that the rear seats are slightly reclinable, improving comfort and relaxation during long journeys. Thanks to the slightly curved roof shape, headroom remains sufficient when the seats are reclined.
The ventilation remains unchanged, and the two USB (Type C) ports are still present.
Model Y: Easy Loading Access
With its Model 3 XL version look, Tesla achieves its goal: a voluminous and easily accessible trunk.
Many Model 3 owners tell me about their mishap with rain and snow falling into their trunk. Good news, the Tesla Model Y’s liftgate allows this “negative” point to be crossed off, and that’s great.
Once the rear seats are folded almost flat, the cargo volume increases to 1,900 liters!
Thanks to a button in the trunk, to be held down for a few seconds, the rear seats fold forward.
